Drive for car with engine driving AC generator and AC motor driving axles

A drive for a car has an IC engine (1) connected to the rotor of a AC generator (6) and an AC drive motor (10) through which one of more driving axles can be driven. The AC motor can be subjected to current generated from the AC generator. There is a control circuit (22) by which according to a specified setpoint, the exciter current of the generator can be controlled. The control circuit has a three phase frequency converter (23) which is connected to a setpoint transmitter (30) as well as devices to detect speed and rotor position of the rotor (14) of the motor and/or the rotor of the generator and/or a rotor (3) of an exciter (4) driven from the engine. An electrical connection between the converter and the stator winding of the exciter as well as an electrical connection between the exciter and the excitation winding of the AC generator are provided.
