The vessel consists of a metal shell which is made up of tubular segments and accommodates a refractory lining. The shell is provided with stiffening rings. Carrier trunnions are attached to the shell are supported by means of plates joined to two lower stiffening rings. The shell top (1) in the form of a truncated cone carrying a lid ring (6) is attached to the upper stiffening ring. The lid ring is provided with holding elements (5) which a distributed over its circumference, and permit a certain axial twist. Within the opening region of the shell top the lid ring is provided with perforations (8) running in the circumferential direction.
