PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding member, for a cylindrical container to be decorated, which has a DLC coat (diamond-like carbon: hard carbon) of high wear- resistance with no adverse effects to damage the inner peripheral face of the cylindrical container and outstanding adhesion properties, and further, diminishes the extent of metal coagulation/settlement and serves as a member for the cylindrical container allowing the repetition of precise printing over a long time. SOLUTION: This holding member for a cylindrical container to be decorated comprises a metal sleeve body for a mandrel, a ceramic sleeve of a silicon nitride sintered material which is of a cylindrical shape and has an outer surface roughness Rmax of 0.4μm or less and further, is fitted into the outer peripheral part of the sleeve body, a DLC coat and/or a diamond coat formed on the outer surface of the ceramic sleeve. The thickness of the coat is 0.1-150μm and the surface roughness Rmax is 0.25μm or less. In addition, when observed microscopically, no pore having an area of 3×10<-4> mm<2> or more is found and in the visible field of 800μm×600μm, five or less pores having an area of 7×10<-5> -3×10<-4> mm<2> are found.
