PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope shape detector that can detect the shape of an inserted endoscope correctly by a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The insertion portion of an endoscope 1 is provided with 3-way gyros 10 that convert the posture in prescribed regions to electrical signals are provided at a prescribed interval. The endoscope shape detector 3 is furnished with posture detection circuits 11 that detect analog output from each of the 3-way gyros 10 as digital data, a data processing circuit 12 that monitors and accumulates detected digital data and generates inserted endoscope shape data, a signal processing means 13 that generate a video signal on the basis of obtained inserted endoscope shape data. A display unit 4 receives video signals outputted from the endoscope shape detector 3 and displays an endoscope shape image on the basis of the inserted shape data.
