PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress abnormal growth of a magnetic film formed on a resin substrate and to permit stable recording and reproducing by applying a metal thin film of a metal element having a bcc or hcp crystalline structure on a resin substrate, and then forming a magnetic recording film thereon. SOLUTION: A metal coating film 2, an orientation controlling film 3, a magnetic film 4 and a protective film 5 are successively deposited by sputtering on a resin substrate 1. As for the metal element for the metal coating film 2, at least one of Ti, Ta, Zr, Nb, W, Mo is used. The metal thin film of this metal coating film 2 is preferably a fine particle or amorphous state. Thereby, the roughness pattern of the magnetic disk substrate can be controlled to <=5 nm peak-to-peak in the perpendicular direction to the film surface and to >=1μm period parallel to the film surface. Therefore, a magnetic head can stably float on the magnetic disk.
