FIELD: pulp-and-paper industry. SUBSTANCE: invention focuses on treating cellulose fiber to lower its predisposition for fibrillation. Fiber is formed from of tertiary amine oxide into water trough, washed, and dried. Dried fiber is treated with a reagent, in particular, in the form of low-alkaline aqueous solution. Reagent has at least two functional groups XCHCH<SB>2</SB> wherein X is electroacceptor group. These groups are capable of interacting with cellulose by way of nucleophilic addition to form ether groups depicted by the following formula: XCH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>O. At least one of groups can be acrylamido, acrylate, ether, or vinylsulfonic group. Reagent can contain at least one cycle with at least three, linked to it, functional groups reacting with cellulose. Fiber to be treated can be in the form of fabric, knitted cloth, or braids. EFFECT: eliminated fibrillation. 18 cl
