摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antimicrobial treatment method which enables excellent antimicrobial activity to be developed for a long period of time without detriment to the appearance of the surface of the substrate by comprising the steps of: coating the surface of a substrate, to be antimicrobially treated, a soln. contg. an antimicrobial metal component with inorg. oxide colloid particles dispersed therein; and heat treating the coating. SOLUTION: The surface of a substrate to be antimicrobially treated is entirely or partially coated with a soln. contg. an antimicrobial metal component (e.g. Ag) pref. in an amt. of 0.05 to 25 wt.% (hereinafter referred to as '%'), still pref. 0.1 to 15%, in terms of oxide with inorg. oxide colloid particles (e.g. TiO2 .ZrO2 .SiO2 colloid particles) dispersed therein, the inorg. oxide colloid particles pref. having an average particle diameter of 3 to 500 nm, still pref. 5 to 250 nm, and having such a particle diameter distribution that the proportion of particles having a size of the average particle diameter±30% being pref. not less than 50%, still pref. not less than 60%, particularly pref. 70 to 100%. The coated substrate is heat treated pref. at 50 to 1,000 deg.C, still pref. 100 to 800 deg.C.
