PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation apparatus which can conduct a driver's own car to destination without obstructing the attention of the driver during traveling. SOLUTION: A CPU 6 reads map data from a map information storage medium 5 via a reader 4, image-processes the read map data and temporarily stores them in an image memory 9 for display. On the basis of the traveled amount measured by a car speed sensor 12, the CPU 6 calculates the traveling velocity V and compares it with a judging velocity Vi. When the traveling velocity V is at least the judging velocity Vi, a display controller 8 decreases the illuminance of a display 7 according to a command from the CPU 6. When the traveling velocity V is smaller than the judging velocity Vi, the illuminance is returned to the normal state of application. The CPU 6 makes the display 7 indicate the map data in the image memory 9 for display. Further the CPU 6 selects image drawing colors of the map and character information content to be drawn which are suitable for the traveling velocity, and makes the display 7 indicate them. |
