The locking mechanism for a plain end (1) and socket (3) of two pipe sections (2, 4) comprises a crown (40) and a locking insert (42) connected to a hoop (43) of elastomer or similar material. The crown is designed to fit inside a locking chamber before the plain pipe end is inserted into it, while the insert is designed to expand radially inside the chamber and extend the locking ring so it goes over the plain pipe end. The locking ring has a connecting element (49) with a collar (55) which extends radially inwards beyond the outer surface (44) of the insert by over 0.4 mm or more than 4 per cent of the of the insert's main radial height. |
