FIELD: oil refining industry. SUBSTANCE: method comprises preparing petroleum polymeric resin by fractionation and polymerization of some fractions, distillation of unpolymerized hydrocarbons and copolymerization of distilled hydrocarbons at elevated temperature and pressure. C<SB>5</SB> fraction is directed to stage where dicyclopentadiene is prepared and where said fraction is subjected to dimerization, and the resulting product is subjected to fractionation in three columns. In this case, by-products formed in dicyclopentadiene preparation stage (top product in second column and bottom product in third column) are directed to petroleum polymeric resin preparation stage where C<SB>9</SB> fraction of liquid pyrolysis products is first subjected at to polymerization 110-200 C, unpolymerized hydrocarbons are distilled off. Said hydrocarbons are mixed with by-products formed in dicyclopentadiene preparation stage (top product in second column and bottom product in third column at certain ratio, and said products are copolymerized. Method makes it possible to process both C<SB>5</SB> and C<SB>9</SB> hydrocarbons of liquid pyrolysis products to prepare dicyclopentadiene and petroleum polymeric resin.
