FIELD: gas treatment catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst is preferably designed for use when removing nitrogen oxides in presence of methane and oxygen or when converting natural gas. Catalyst contains palladium compound, modifier (tin compound), and alpha-alumina. On the whole, catalyst is composed (on conversion to metal): 0.01 to 2.2% Pd and 0.5 to 4.0% Sn. Preparation of catalyst consists in introducing modifier into alumina carrier, heat treatment, impregnation with palladium nitrate solution and final heat treatment. Method is distinguished by applying tin compound onto high-temperature theta- and kappa-alumina forms or their mixtures with gamma- or alpha- alumina level up to 20 wt.% or by mixing modifier with aluminum hydroxide-based batch to form alumina carrier, modified carrier being thermally treated at 800 to 1300 C.
