FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to following oil residues: straight-run mazuts, goudrons, cracking residues, heavy pyrolysis tars, heavy petroleums which are treated in mixtures with sapropelite. In particular, sapropelite taken in amount 5 to 25% is subjected to mechanochemical treatment in vibrational mill at such acceleration level that assures specific surface 3000 to 6000 sq.cm/g at maximum particle size 20-50 mcm. Ground sapropelite is then mixed with oil residue and mixture is homogenized in vibrational apparatus at vibration frequency 1 to 25 Hz and vibration amplitude 2 to 6 mm to form suspension that is subjected to thermal cracking at 390-440 C and pressure 0.2 to 5 Mpa.
