Hydrogen is released from water by electrolysis and is compressed and stored for use as fuel in clean engine. The reservoirs, pipes and non-return valves carrying hydrogen are made of non-oxidizable material, such as aluminum, stainless steel or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and the electrodes are designed to maximize area in contact with water and can be removed and periodically renewed. Device to allow the fabrication and use of hydrogen from water, containing a reservoir (1) in which two electrodes (+ve anode (2) and -ve cathode (3)) are fixed to the base. An electric current (A) flows through these electrodes, electrolyzing the water in reservoir and pipes (4, 5) around electrodes and releasing hydrogen. The hydrogen is carried to another reservoir (10) via pipe (5) with a non-return valve (7) and is transferred via pipe (11) with a non-return valve (12) to a compressor (13) before being sent to a third reservoir (16) via pipe (14) and a non-return valve (15). The hydrogen can then be used, e.g. as combustion engine fuel. The electrodes are fixed to plates on base of reservoir so they can be removed and renewed. The pipes (4, 5) in the reservoir contain non-return valves (6, 7). Oxygen is released to atmosphere. The compressed hydrogen is stored at 10 - 100 bars, depending on the engine using it. |
