The sliding contact piece has an elongate carrier (14) for supporting an elongate carbon rail (12) having a channel (18) in its underside for reception of the carrier. The latter is provided by a U-shaped or C-shaped metal profile with the gap between its side arms bridged by the base (50) of the rectangular cross-section channel in the underside of the carbon rail.
