OPTICAL PULSE GENERATING ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly obtain laser light of 1.5μm band by means of an optical pulse generating element which incorporates a solid-state laser medium and a saturable absorber. SOLUTION: A glass laser medium 33 containing erbium and ytterbium is used as a solid-state laser medium, and a uranium-doped calcium fluoride plate is used as a saturable absorber 37. The laser medium 33 and absorber 37 are brought into contact with each other through an intermediate film 35 which reflects part of stimulating light 50 to the glass laser medium 33 side and transmits the remainder to the absorber 37 side. An input mirror 31 is provided on the laser medium 33 side, and an output mirror 39 is provided on the absorber 37 side.
