PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a single crystal film which can be produced from a melt contg. a high concn. lithium niobate, has >=50μm thickness at a comparatively low temp. and also has excellent crystal properties, and also to provide a production of the film. SOLUTION: This single crystal film concurrently contains vanadium element and boron element and is formed by bringing a melt of lithium niobate into contact with a single crystal substrate, wherein the concn. of the vanadium element and boron element in the melt are preferably 10 to 5,000 ppm by weight, respectively; and in the pseudo-ternary phase diagram made at the time of regarding the melt composition as an LiNbO3 -LiVO3 -LiBO2 pseudo-ternary system, the composition ration of LiNbO3 , LiVO3 and LiBO2 to each other, which is represented by a point (mol.% of LiNbO3 , mol.% of LiVO3 , mol.% of LiBO2 ), is preferably within the composition range enclosed by a polygon drawn with four points, namely, A (10, 80, 10), B (10, 10, 80), C (50, 10, 40) and D (50, 40, 10), as the vertexes.
