Thermotropically transparent molding materials with at least 2 components, comprising a transparent plastic component (A) and another component (B) consisting of a non-liquid crystal material which is thermodynamically immiscible with (A) and shows a temperature-dependence of refractive index (R.I.) different from that of (A). An Independent claim is also included for the production of these materials in which the components are subjected to forced mixing by compounding, e.g. in a kneader or extruder, or polymerized as a two- or multi-block copolymer.
