FIELD: disinfection of food products, soil, timber and premises for insect, mite, nematode and bacteria control. SUBSTANCE: fumigant contains carbonyl sulfide and composition which is based on it and contains diluent gas. Method involves providing disinfection by smoking food products, soil premises with carbonyl sulfide for time ranging between 1 hour and 35 days in concentration of 38-460 mg hour/l depending upon kind of pest and pest development stage. Carbonyl sulfide is not actively absorbed by grain, has low ignitability as compared to known fumigants, such as phosphine, does not act to the worse upon grain germination. This fumigant is evidently safe for environment and may be effectively used in grain storage. It may be used for smoking of other products laid for storage (including perishable products), soil, timber and premises, for instance buildings, and materials that may be insect or mite infected, or may act as source of infection.
