Provided are: modified plant fibers suitable for addition to rubbers; an additive for rubbers that includes the modified plant fibers, which, when the additive for rubbers is added to a rubber, are highly finely dispersed with ease; a process for producing the additive for rubbers; and a rubber composition containing the additive for rubbers. The modified plant fibers (A) comprise 100 parts by mass of plant fibers (a) and 5-100 parts by mass of a modifying synthetic rubber (B), the plant fibers (a) and the modifying synthetic rubber (B) having been bonded to each other by covalent bonding. The additive for rubbers comprises 20-75 mass% the modified plant fibers (A) and 25-80 mass% processing aid (C) for rubbers, the processing aid (C) for rubbers having a number-average molecular weight of 400-60,000 and a glass transition temperature of 100ºC or lower, and contains 10-65 mass% plant fibers. |
