DIRECTION DETECTING SIGNAL GENERATOR AND TRACK JUMP METHOD USING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A direction detecting signal generator is provided to detect that track jump reversibly proceeds to a proceeding direction thereof at a close due to eccentricity. CONSTITUTION: The direction detecting signal generator comprises a controller. In a servo system corresponding to a jump command signal generated for tracking jump to carry out the track jump, the generator inputs a track zero cross signal and the jump command signal, respectively. The generator responds to a trailing edge of a mirror signal to output an inverse exclusive-OR signal of the jump command signal and the zero cross signal as a direction detecting signal. All of the signals are used in detecting finish time of the track jump, thereby finishing track jump operation by the direction detecting signal without generating a mirror signal larger than a reference period owing to eccentricity at the finish time thereof. It is therefore possible to prevent wrong operation caused by the eccentricity in the track jump.
