PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with a putting work of a protection sheet in beam ends during the installation work of beams, by fitting a protection member in advance to the flange of the beam ends which come into contact with the inside face of concrete segments of a shield tunnel. SOLUTION: An H-shaped steel beam 2 is horizontally laid as a sleeper at the inside face 1a formed of concrete segments of a shield tunnel 1, and then rails 14 are laid thereon to make it possible for a working trucks to travel thereon. Protection members 3 are fitted in advance to flanges of the end edges 2a of the beam 2 in contact with the inside face 1a of the tunnel. The protection member 3 made of rubber or synthetic resin is formed to have a U-shaped section, and elastically fitted to the flanges or fixedly adhered. When the end edge 2a is cut vertically, the protection member may be fitted to only the lower flange, but when it is cut slantly, it is fitted to both upper and lower flanges. Accordingly, a putting work of the protection sheets is not required during the installation work of the beams 2 by fitting in advance the protection members 3 to the end edges 2a of the beams 2.
