An abrasion resistant marked polyethylene substrate (I) that has good contrast to the markings comprises a polyethylene containing 30-60 wt.% inorganic powder. An Independent claim is included for a process to produce (I) by use of a Nd:YAG laser to produce a dark grey marking.
