PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize a reading operation against the position shift and also to stabilize the moving position and the speed by using a guide plate provided on the under surface of the main body of a scanner device and a slide means which can slide the scanner device main body on the guide plate and reading an image when both the scanner device main body and the guide plate relatively move. SOLUTION: A scanner device has a hollow part 5 of a guide plate 3 to decide a reading range, and the plate 3 including the part 5 can be drawn out of the scanner main body 1 which is put on the plate 3 via a ball bearing. When the plate 3 is put on the paper, the main body 1 does not touch the paper. Thus, the main body 1 can smoothly slide on the plate 3. In a reading mode, the plate 3 provided on the under surface of the main body 1 is drawn out and put on the paper to decide a reading range. Then the main body 1 is slid to the left direction while a switch 4 is pushed.
