PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient process for producing 2-keto-L-gulonic acid (2-KGA) or its salt from D-sorbitol. SOLUTION: This is a process for continuously producing 2-keto-L-gulonic acid or its salt from D-sorbitol through the fermentation using microorganisms. In this process, a nutrient medium including D-sorbitol is incubated together with a microorganism that can convert D-sorbitol to L-sorbitol. Then the resultant fermentation broth containing L-sorbose is transferred to the second fermentation tank where the L-sorbose is incubated together with a microorganism capable of converting L-sorbose to 2-keto-L-gulonic acid.
