LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display having a liquid crystal region of desired size, excellent viewing angle characteristics and high contrast. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is equipped with a first substrate 1, a second substrate 2 and a liquid crystal layer 9 held between the first and the second substrates. The first substrate 1 is equipped with projecting structures and a vertical alignment layer 5b provided in the side of the liquid crystal layer and the liquid crystal layer 9 is equipped with a plurality of liquid crystal regions 8 separated with projecting structures 7. Liquid crystal molecules in a plurality of liquid crystal regions are axially symmetrically oriented with respect to a central axis vertical to a surface of the first substrate 1. Each of a plurality of liquid crystal regions has about <=70μm size.
