PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent coating film removability and handleability by specifying characteristics of a primary coating resin in specified relation. SOLUTION: This optical fiber consists of a glass fiber having 125μouter diameter, a primary coating of 170 to 210μm outer diameter around the glass fiber, and a second coating of 230 to 260μm outer diameter around the first coating. The Young's modulus of the resin of the primary coating is <=0.20 kg/mm2, and the resin used as the primary coating satisfies the relation of (adhesion strength (g/mm) on the interface between a glass plate and the resin of the primary coating)/(Young's modulus (kg/mm2) of the resin of the primary coating) = 15 to 50. In this method, a fiber ribbon 1 consists of glass fibers 2, primary coating layers 3, secondary coating layers 4, color layers (ink layers) 5 and a sheath 6 covering the whole body. As for the photosetting resin which is easily cured with light such as UV rays and to be used as the primary and secondary coating material, for example, urethane (meth)acrylate and epoxy (meth)acrylate can be used.
