PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound exhibiting high affinity for Corticotropin Releasing Factor(CRF) receptor and useful as a therapeutic agent of a preventing agent for diseases such as depression, anxiety, hypertension, inflammation, to which the CRF has a causative relation. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [Ar is phenyl, thienyl or the like; Z is formula II, formula III (R1 and R2 are each H or a lower alkyl; X1 to X3 are each H, a halogen or the like) or the like] or its salt, e.g. 6-[4-(4- chlorophenyl)-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridin-1-yl]-2-methyl-9-(2-methylthio-4- isopropylphenyl)purine. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting, e.g. a 4- or 5-aryl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine derivative of formula IV with a halogenated hetero ring derivative of the formula X4-Z (X4 is Cl, Br or I) in an inert solvent such as ethanol.
