PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deformation against the pressure of air in a filter formed by joining a retainer to a pleated filter medium so as to across the ridge line of the medium by making the retainer made of a resin solidified from the melted state and providing the retainer apart from the filter medium in the trough part. SOLUTION: The air filter suitably used for an air purifier or the like is constituted of the pleated filter medium 1 and the retainer 4 jointed to each surface of projecting parts of the filter medium 1 and other filter medium 5 is laminated on the retainer 4. The retainer 4 is continuously joined to the peak parts of the pleated filter medium 1 and is not laid on the surface except the peak parts to be apart from the filter medium 1. The laying of the retainer 4 is carried out by providing the resin in the melted state on the perk parts of the pleated filter medium 1, folding the filter medium to contact the resin with each other while the resin is not completely hardened and cooling the resin to solidify as it keeps the folded shape.
