PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device that corrects defective pixels in capable of causing very small deterioration in image quality, and the image pickup method. SOLUTION: A digital image pickup signal which is the output of an A/D converter 3 is given to a carrier detection section 4 and an interpolation section 5, the carrier detection section 4 detects the level of a color carrier around a defective pixel and the interpolation section 5 obtains an interpolation value to interpolate the level of the defective pixel, based on a signal from pixels around the defective pixel. A combining section 6 combines the obtained color carrier level with the interpolated value and the combined signal is used to replace the signal of the defective pixel.
