PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of defects by the adhesion of alignment stock to sealing portions, packaging portions, etc., to improve productivity and to reduce a production cost. SOLUTION: An alignment layer 12 on a panel substrate 10 is subjected to an alignment treatment by diagonally irradiating the alignment layer 12 with ions (a) and thereafter, the unnecessary portions of the alignment layer 12 are removed by the irradiation with the ions in the state of installing a mask 13. The ion acceleration is preferably 1000 V to 1500 V when the ion current density is 15μA/cm2 to 25μA/cm2 and the ion irradiation time is >=20 seconds.
