PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the driver aware of the running condition of a vehicle even while automatic steering is in effect by implementing automatic steering control when the switch device of an automatic steering device is on. SOLUTION: Based on operation data received from a main switch 21 and respective steering switches 17a, 17b, an electronic control unit 25 switches over to the automatic steering mode or cancels the automatic steering mode. The running condition of the vehicle is assessed on the basis of detected information from various sensors, and, when it is possible to execute automatic steering, steering control is carried out to keep the lateral displacement of the vehicle within it's own traffic lane constant. When the main switch 21 comes on, if the steering switch 17a or 17b is on, automatic steering will not be executed unless the steering switch 17a or 17b is turned off and then back on again. |
