PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly and surely detect a defocusing amount even in the case of detecting a focusing state in plural focus detection areas while performing scanning operation by deciding the driving speed of a photographing lens in the scanning operation in accordance with the number of image sensors used for arithmetic processing. SOLUTION: The image sensors 3C, 3L, 3R, 3T and 3B correspond to the focus detection areas 2C, 2L, 2R, 2T and 2B, and output output-signals from the respective image sensors to a focus detection arithmetic part 4. The arithmetic part 4 arithmetically processes the output signals from the image sensors 3C, 3L, 3R, 3T and 3B and detects the defocusing amount of the photographing lens 1 in the focus detection areas 2C, 2L, 2R, 2T and 2B in accordance with a mode selected by a selective mode setting part 5 and an area selected by an area selection part 6. A lens driving control part 7 drives the lens 1 in accordance with the direction and the amount shown by the final defocusing amount by the arithmetic part 4. |
