The invention relates to a method for producing sheet forming tools. Starting with a three-dimensional volume model of said sheet forming tool, the three-dimensional co-ordinates of the model surface are generated, the volume model is separated into layers and the respective contour co-ordinates are determined for these volume elements using the three-dimensional co-ordinates of the model surface. Either layers of paper and/or plastic films are stuck successively on top of each other and the respective layers corresponding to the volume elements are cut using a cutting tool, or a working chamber is filled with a plastic powder which is evenly distributed in layers according to the volume elements and said plastic powder is then sintered using a laser beam that is guided over the layer of plastic powder, joining it to the preceding sintered layer. The cutting tool or the laser beam are controlled with the contour co-ordinates allocated to the respective volume elements in order to carry out the sintering process.
