After manufacture, engine (12), clutch (14) and gearbox (16) are assembled in a commissioning bay (26) equipped with facilities operating clutch (18), gearbox (20) actuators, etc. of assembled train. Electronic control unit (22), including memories (32), is linked (30) to sensors (24) on drive train and to those provided on clutch (26) and gearbox (28) actuators. Checks are first made on clutch. States and positions detected by various sensors are input to memories (32). In particular, end-of-travel measurements are made on clutch, together with engagement point position. Actuator positions are associated with corresponding clutch and gearbox positions, the latter in all ratio settings and in neutral. Certain recorded data is subsequently rechecked, and if necessary adjusted, during further checks on completed vehicle on rolling road test bed.
