PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for moving body position detection, which eliminates the need for specifying the position of a reflecting body arranged in a movement area and can perform detection without using rotating bodies. SOLUTION: An optical unit 10 composed of a laser oscillator 11 and a CCD camera 12 irradiates a truck 30 as a moving body with laser light in all circumferential directions and photodetects the reflected light of the laser light to obtain photodetection data. Reflecting bodies Hi are arranged at plural positions in the movement area, and the photodetection luminance distribution is different at the respective positions in the movement area because of their reflection. An MPU 21 compares the comparison data obtained from the photodetection luminance distribution and the angleθfrom a reference direction obtained by a gyrosensor 40 with reference data stored in a memory 22 to detect the position of the truck 30 according to the comparison result.
