PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily produce a glass and to decrease the production cost by keeping the die temp. to a specified range to form a fused glass. SOLUTION: The die temp. during forming is controlled to 300 to 500 deg.C. Thereby, the surface roughness, flatness and parallelism required as a glass substrate can be transferred with good accuracy. Since the heating temp. of the die is low, the energy used is small. By combining a reinforcing process by an ion exchanging method or reinforcing process by crystallization in or after the production process, a glass substrate having extremely high rigidity can be obtd. Further, by subjecting the glass to surface treatment (coating with a resin or thin film) after formed, a substrate profile with higher accuracy can be obtd. Since the forming accuracy is very high in this glass forming method, the glass is only required for precision polishing after formed. Further, by reheating and forming, a glass substrate with higher accuracy can be obtd.
