PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel construction method capable of coping with a difference in diameter and shape of a tunnel. SOLUTION: A tunnel boring vehicle 1a excavates a shield tunnel with a diameter M by a cutter 9a and also assembles segments to construct a shield tunnel. After the tunnel boring vehicle 1a reaches a pit 41, in the pit 41, the cutter 9a and a cutter support of the tunnel boring machine 1a are fitted with a cutter 9b and a cutter support to obtain an enlarged-diameter tunnel boring vehicle 1b. The tunnel boring vehicle 1b excavats a shield tunnel with a diameter L (M<L) and also assembles segments to construct a shield tunnel.
