PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manhole and a pipe joint for the manhole which can prevent damage of a conduit and improve the efficiency of piping works of a downflow pipe. SOLUTION: A main body 14 and a sewer main pipe 12a are connected to each other by a retractable flexible joint 16, and a retractable flexible joint 76 is used as part of a downflow pipe 18 to be connected to the sewer main pipe 12a. When a force in a direction of expanding/contracting or bending the conduit is applied to the sewer main pipe 12a due to ground displacement accompanying an earthquake or the like, the retractable flexible joint 16 and the retractable flexible joint are deformed, which leads to displacement of the sewer main pipe 12a and the downfall pipe 18 without strain, whereby a stress applied to the joint between the sewer main pipe 12a and a manhole 10 and to the downfall pipe 18 can be absorbed. In this manner, the stress applied to the downfall pipe 18 can be absorbed by the retractable flexible joint, and therefore damage of the conduit in the downflow pipe 18 can be prevented.
