The mat for laying on the ground to encourage vegetation growth, and prevent ground erosion, is in three layers produced by a continuous conveyor belt prodn. A layer, 5-15 mm height, is of long fiber non-toxic vegetable and degradable material in lengths of 70-500 cm. It is held together by quilted seams, using a non-toxic thread in continuous stitching. Its under side is at a layer of a non-toxic adhesive which dissolves slightly in water, augmented by fertilizer, to hold mixed seeds. The mats are laid overlapping each other, and are secured by degradable pegs or branches pushed through them into the ground. The vegetable materials can be all types of straw, reed, sisal, bamboo, hemp, flax, and the like.
