PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical surface layer removing method for a metallic plate, capable of reducing costs by realizing removal of the surface layer for the metallic plate by using a press working method, and improving work efficiency by drastically shortening the machining work time. SOLUTION: A press die 1 formed by providing a specified continuous ribbed irregularity 2 is pressed to the side end surface of a metallic plate 3 in parallel with the surface of the metallic plate 3 as a work piece. The specified continuous ribbed irregularity is machined and formed on the front surface of the metallic plate 3, after that, an intermediate upper part of the ribbed irregularity is pressed by a flat blade-shaped press die and removed.
