The mounting structure, to fit a telescopic sight to a hunting weapon, has a longitudinal profile rail to hold the mounting pedestal (11) which carries the sight. The mounting pedestal (11) has at least two components (13) with a lateral sliding movement, under a spring pressure against each other with sufficient force to hold the pedestal (11) in a firm grip at the rail. When the components (13) are pressed together by a thumb and forefinger, against the spring pressure, the grip is released for the pedestal (11) to be removed from the rail. The profile rail is of zinc or a plastics material. The mounting pedestal is of aluminum or an aluminum alloy.
