PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an excellent sliding characteristic, high lens holder supporting accuracy, and excellent durability by providing the optical pickup with a supporting shaft arranged on a base, and a lens holder supported to be freely turned by a bearing fitted on the supporting shaft, and coating at least the surface of the supporting shaft in contact with the bearing with diamond-like carbon(DLC). SOLUTION: The optical pickup supports a lens holder 3 by a supporting shaft 1 erected on a base 5. The lens holder 3 is provided with a bearing 2, and this bearing 2 is fitted on the supporting shaft 1 so as to be shifted in the axial direction and turned. The surface of the supporting shaft 1, at least the surface in contact with the bearing 2 of the lens holder 3, is coated with a DLC film called amorphous diamond. The DLC film is 0.02-2.0μm thick, preferably, 0.05-1.0μm thick. When the thickness is within this range, a sliding characteristic is maintained, and in addition, the supporting shaft 1 is scarcely changed in dimension, and the cylindricity and coaxiality can be maintained within a predetermined range.
