PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alternative magnetic disk device which can be alternated even when it is different in the specification of a format or the like in a main body part as a storage device. SOLUTION: This alternative magnetic disk device to be used alternatively for a magnetic disk device having a connection result to a host system is provided with a magnetic disk device main body 2 capable of storing data and having peculiar attribute information, and an attribute information provided means 3 for holding attribute information peculiar to the magnetic disk device having the connection result and providing the held attribute information instead of attribute information on the magnetic disk device main body to the host system.
