PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent drain oil in a drain chamber from being sucked from a suction port, and prevent failure of a pump beforehand by arranging a means for closing the suction port and the drain chamber in a swash plate type piston pump. SOLUTION: In a device wherein a valve plate is push-pressed to a cylinder block side by acting delivery pressure in a delivery chamber disposed on a back surface of a valve plate on which a suction chamber 19 is formed so as to prevent opening/separating a sliding surface between the cylinder block and the valve plate, a groove 62 is inscribed on an outer peripheral surface of the valve plate, a seal ring 61 is fittingly inserted into the groove 62, and the seal ring 61 elastically abuts on a hole part 60 of a cover 6. Accordingly, a drain chamber 2 and a suction port 24 are cut off. When oil is sucked to a suction chamber 19 disposed on the valve plate through a suction port 24 by a swash piston pump, it is obstructed that drain oil in the drain chamber 2 is sucked by the seal ring 61, so that failure of the pump is prevented.
