The invention relates to a gasifying and combustion device for solid fuels, together with an apparatus for putting the process into practice. The apparatus essentially comprises a vertical cylindrical upper container 1, a particle separator 2, a combustion pipe 3 placed below the cylinder, a grate 4 placed in the combustion pipe, a pipe 5 placed around the combustion pipe in order to heat the combustion air, a container 6 placed under the combustion pipe, a return pipe 7 for the circulating gases, a fan 8, and devices for feeding in the air 9 and the fuel 10. The fuel is fed in with a gas current to the particle separator, where the fuel is pyrolysed and partially gasified. The non-gasified fuel is separated off in the particle separator and falls below onto a grate inside the combustion pipe in order to form a layer of carbon, into which part of the combustion air is introduced. The gas stream in the particle separator is brought into contact with the carbon layer in the combustion pipe, and then passed into the container that is situated under the combustion pipe. Most of the gas stream is removed from the container and led to the place where it is used for heating or for another purpose. However, part of the gas is recycled with the aid of the fan to a pipe that leads to the particle separator and into which fuel is introduced. <IMAGE>
