PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure further improvement in resolution by correcting a time lag in response speed of a display element while substantially increasing the number of pixels thereof by a pixel shift. SOLUTION: In this image display device including an LCD consisting of pixels arranged in a matrix, the pixel shift optical element capable of changing a display position by the same pixel in a plurality of fields in one frame by periodically shifting an optical axis from the LCD, and a driving circuit for driving the LCD while feeding an image signal thereto by synchronization with the optical axis shift, there is provided an image correction computation portion 114 for determining the differenceΔX between a preceding field image signal xn-1 and a present field image signal xn in each pixel, computing a correction value corresponding to the differenceΔX with a lookup table 52 and computing circuits 53, 54, 55 of each kind, thereby correcting the present field image signal xn, and outputting the corrected image signal xn' to the corresponding pixel.
