PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computing method for the thickness of a painting film, in which the thickness of the film can be estimated with high accuracy when the distribution of the thickness of the film is a trapezoidal shape. SOLUTION: In this computing method for the thickness of a painting film, the thickness of the printing film is estimated and comouted when the distribution of the thickness of the film formed by performing a painting operation by using a painting gun is a trapezoidal shape. The inclination is designated as (a), an intercept is designated as (b), the distance from the center in the distribution of the thickness of the film is designated as L, and the height is designated as H. Then, the thicknessμof the painting film is modeled as two expressions of (1)μ=b±a×L (where b±a×L<H) and (2)μ=H (where H<=b±a×L), (a), (b) and H are found by a double regression analysis, and a model expression which is composed of the two expression is completed. The thickness of the painting film is computed and estimated by using the model expression.
