PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize operations of a high frequency power source circuit by closely disposing an excitation coil on the outer periphery of a bulb having a recessed part and by arranging a part of a high frequency power source circuit for supplying a high frequency power for the excitation coil on the recessed part. SOLUTION: By closely disposing an excitation coil 6 on the outer periphery of a bulb 8 and arranging a high frequency power source circuit inside the bulb 8, a distance is provided between the high frequency power source circuit and the excitation coil 6 reaching relatively high temperature during an electrodeless discharge lamp lighting device 1 for preventing damages or unstable operations of the high frequency power source circuit. Since the high frequency power source circuit is housed inside the bulb 8, stable circuit operations and downsizing the electrodeless discharge lamp lighting device 1 are realized at the same time. By depositing a glossy metal 13 on the outer wall of a recessed part 11 inside the bulb 8, radiation heat from the arc discharge generated inside the bulb 8 is shielded and the temperature rise of the high frequency power source circuit is suppressed.
