The invention relates to a hard-chrome plated layer, especially for a piston ring. The inventive hard-chrome plated layer is substantially produced on the basis of an electrolyte that contains hexavalent chrome. The layer is interspersed with fissures and diamond particles are embedded in said fissures, the diamond particles having a size of 0.25 to 0.5 mu m.
