PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk system to which countermeasure against the vibration is taken before a magnetic disk device mounted on an automobile is affected directly by the vibration or impact, etc. SOLUTION: This system is provided with a magnetic disk device 3 mounted on the automobile 2, vibration predicting sensors 21, 22 and a host 14 for predicting the external vibration exerted on the magnetic disk device 3 through a body of the automobile 2. Result of the external vibration is predicted by the vibration predicting sensors 21, 22 and the host 14. A hard disk controller 15 in the magnetic disk device 3 controls the access operation by the device 3 based on this obtained predicted result. Thus, in the case the infliction of the comparatively larger external vibration is predicted on the magnetic disk device 3, possible destruction of data, etc. on the magnetic disk 5 is prevented by retracting the magnetic head 7 from the mount position on the magnetic disk 5.
